Squee!

Squee is the very adorable little guy that lives next door to Nny. Squee's real name is Todd but when Nny asks his name the only sound that emits from the little guy's mouth is a feeble "squee."

I really like Squee, he has all this sad horrible stuff happen to him and nobody does anything about it. His parents hate him. His daddy says that Squee ruined his life. Squee's momma is just never in the mood to help Squee when bad things happen to him. She always ignores him. Shmee told Squee that his parents were bad people, but like a good little boy, he defended them by saying that just because they wished he would get kidnapped doesn't make them bad people. He just wants to be loved. sniff

Shmee is the only one who appears to care at the beginning. But would a teddy bear who loved you try to make you hate your parents or scare you? Something isn't right with that bear. But just look at him. He's so cute!(in a demented sort of way.)

If anybody would really like to give me the Squee comics I would be much appreciative :) although, I have the comics. But if you are in a generous mood, I could always use a few more.

My favorite Squee!s are #1 and #4. Parts of #3 were good too but I wasn't exactly thrilled with #2. As |Sunder| put it, "It's just a case of not pleasing everybody all the time." Or that's close to what he said, but I digress. #1 was a great intro the separate series and begins with our little protagonist getting abducted by aliens. Squee! #4 simply made me giggle the whole way through. Jhonen did an excellent job in finishing the series and let us know what Johnny's been up to while his neighbor was being traumatized.

Getting your Squee fix is easy. They have been collected into one big trade chock full of Squee goodness with the added bonus of all the Meanwhiles and WHB's.

Links

This is a list of links that I like.

  • Immortalizing the Moment is |Sunder|'s page and it's really nice and has links to other cool JTHM pages, the Message Board and a few other things.
  • Slave Labor Graphics Publishers of such fine literature as JTHM, Squee, and Lenore.
  • Lenore is the neat comic that the lovely and wonderful Roman Dirge draws. She's so cute. I haven't looked over the whole page yet, but if it's really bad and I really don't like it, you'll know because this link will be gone. Ed note: I like it and you should too.
  • Grim's Vile Tales is a page by a guy named Jay who's trying to get his comic picked up. The guy is really talented and his page is really neat. It is chock full of his wonderful art. Go check it out.
  •  Steven has nothing to do with JtHM but I didn't know where to put this picture. He is drawn by Doug Allen. Here is his web site.

Oky, I said I'd make a banner for people to link to my page, and I finally did it. Here is how you can link to my page with it:

<a href="http://www.viciousgrin.com/jthm/jthm.html"> <img src="babybanner.jpg" width=300 height=60 border=0></a>

And it should look something like this:

Tada, there you go. Just copy the above script and paste it into your editor and it should work beautifully. Also, right click on the banner image and upload it into your directory. Do NOT hotlink to the banner. :) Have a nice day, kids.

Comics

Comics that I collect, have collected, or pique my interest.

  • Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen C. Vasquez and published by Slave Labor Graphics. It's a very strange book about a seriously messed up guy who kills people to feed blood to a wall in his house that has a big evil monster behind it. His companions are Nail Bunny, the Psycho Doughboys (Mr. Eff and Psycho Doughboy), and Squee (his next door neighbor whom he tends to traumatize). For more of Jhonen's work go here.

  • The Sandman by Neil Gaiman and published by DC/Vertigo Comics. It's a book about the Endless; a very dysfunctional family who all have very specific jobs that effect the lives of mortals. But mostly it focuses on Dream and there are occasional appearances of his older sister, Death. I'm so close to completing my collection. This basically means that I either have the trade paper backs or individual issues of the entire series.

  • Death: The High Cost of Living by Neil Gaiman and published by DC/Vertigo Comics. It's a miniseries about Death and how every millennium she comes to Earth as a mortal for one day so she can understand the lives she takes. (I do have the newer series, The Time of Your Life, but I didn't like the story as much.)

  • The Dreaming by various authors with covers by Dave McKean and published by DC/Vertigo Comics (I like Vertigo, in case you haven't noticed that by now). It features stories about the other dwellers of the Dreaming. The covers are beautiful and it really kind of picks up where the Sandman left off. Started out great but dropped off in quality considerably. But the last few issues I've read (around issue 30 or so) the story was really good.

  • Kabuki is drawn by a guy named David Mack. Kabuki is a really cool book about a bunch of hired hit women who wear masks constantly and have a really cool dragon tattoo on their backs. It's just a really keen book. I could explain why I like it so much, but that's why I wrote an entire essay on strong female comic book characters.

  • Squee! is the tale of Johnny's loveable little pal and his trauma sponge, Shmee. It is a series of four books that details Squee's adventures with aliens, school and the psychiatric ward. It's a great book. The better place to go about this book would be my Squee page.

  • Milk & Cheese; Dairy Products Gone Bad by Evan Dorkin and published by Slave Labor Graphics is really good. It's wild and crazy dairy product fun... you should go out and buy it, while you're doing that, pick up the other comics you see proudly displayed for you on this page. They are all just generally good and you'll probably like them a lot.

Greetings and Salutations

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, comic book creation of Jhonen Vasquez. Presented for your perusal.

Johnny is a very disturbed individual. He has some pretty strange adventures, involving going to hell and head-explody. Also something wacky happens at the Taco Smell. You want to get the books so why don't you just get off your lazy butt and do it. Besides, reading enriches your mind.

Johnny is the creation of one Jhonen Vasquez. An individual who wreaks havoc on the evils of society through creative art-like expression. I have found there are two common ways of reacting to Johnny the Homicidal Maniac: disgust at the way Johnny deals swift and unrelenting justice; and evil grins and chuckles of understanding at the way Johnny deals swift and unrelenting justice. If you are the first type, I have no idea how you found your way here, you are probably not going to like any of the material I am about to present. If you are the second type, Welcome and enjoy.
